By far the best proof is experience.

Doth any man doubt, that if there were taken out of men’s minds vain opinions, flattering hopes, false valuations, imaginations as one would, and the like, but it would leave the minds of a number of men poor shrunken things, full of melancholy and indisposition, and unpleasing to themselves?
Once the human mind has favoured certain views, it pulls everything else into agreement with and support for them. Thus it happens that human knowledge, as we have it, is a mere medley and ill-digested mass, made up of much credulity and much accident, and also of the childish notions which we at first imbibed.
We represent300 also all multiplications301 of light, which we carry to great distance, and make so sharp as to discern small points and lines; also all colorations of light:.
