Some books are to be tasted, others to be swallowed, and some few to be chewed and digested.

Once the human mind has favoured certain views, it pulls everything else into agreement with and support for them. Thus it happens that human knowledge, as we have it, is a mere medley and ill-digested mass, made up of much credulity and much accident, and also of the childish notions which we at first imbibed.
