Contention in our families drives the Spirit of the Lord away. It also drives many of our family members away. Contention ranges from a hostile spoken word to worldwide conflicts. The scriptures tell us that “Only by pride cometh contention”.
Mothers, take time to be a real friend to your children. Listen to your children, really listen. Talk with them, laugh and joke with them, sing with them, cry with them, hug them, honestly praise them. Yes, regularly spend unused one-on-one time with each child. Be a real friend to your children.
Strong families cultivate an attribute of effective communication. They talk out their problems, make plans together, and cooperate toward common objectives.
We have many responsibilities, and one cannot expect the full blessings of a kind Providence if he neglects any major duty. A man has duties to his church, his home, his country, and his profession or job.
Above all else, children need to know and feel they are loved, wanted, and appreciated. They need to be assured of that often. Obviously, this is a role parents should fill, and most often the mother can do it best.
Those who are heavy-laden with despair should come unto the Lord.
The body needs the rejuvenation that comes from exercise. Walking in the fresh air can be exhilarating and refreshing. Properly directed running can also have some beneficial effects. Simple sit-ups or sports activities can also be helpful.
Have good associates or don’t associate at all. Be careful in the selection of your friends. If in the presence of certain persons you are lifted to nobler heights, you are in good company. But if your friends or associates encourage base thoughts, then you had best leave them.
If you turn your life over to the Lord he can do so much more with it than we can.
We cannot do everything at once, but we can do a great deal if we choose our goals well and work diligently to attain them.
When we set goals we are in command. If we know where we are going, we can judge more accurately where we are now and make effective plans to reach our destination.
We should confess His hand in all things. Ingratitude is one of our great sins.
There can be no genuine happiness separate and apart from the home.
Take care of yourselves physically. Guard your health carefully. It is one of our greatest blessings. I especially encourage some type of exercise program so you can stay physically fit and physically capable in proportion to the demands on your body.
Those who think clean thoughts do not do dirty deeds.
It is better to prepare and prevent than it is to repair and repent.
How vital are mother’s influence and teaching in the home-and how apparent when neglected!
The Lord has warned and forewarned us against a day of great tribulation and given us counsel, through His Servants, on how we can be prepared for these difficult times. Have we heeded His counsel?
Praise your children more than you correct them. Praise them for even their smallest achievement.
To their duty to God, youth should realize their duty to our country. They should love and honor the Constitution of the United States, the basic concepts and principles upon which this nation has been established. Yes, they need to develop a love for our free institutions.
