My constant focus is on being better. Should I be doing multimedia video production? Or seminars on the Internet? How can I do what I’m already doing in a more forceful way?
Making other people happy is what brings me happiness. I have a blessed life, and I have always shared my life’s gifts with others. I will continue to use my voice and my life as a catalyst for encouraging people to help make a difference in the lives of others.
You know that old joke about the guy who lives to be 104? The punch line goes something like ‘If I knew I was gonna get this old, I’d have taken much better care of myself.’ Well, guess what? We actually are living longer, and the time to start taking care of ourselves is right this minute.
I look at problems as opportunities and use every person, every incident, and every encounter as an opportunity to show a more loving part of myself.
I believe your personality is formed at a very early age. Fame can magnify that personality, for good or bad, but it can’t change it. So when people say to me, ‘Don’t change,’ I’m thinking, To what? To who? Who else would I be?
It took a lot of courage to take the high road, but I would rather be significant with six million people watching a show with meaning, than everyone watching a show with no meaning.
I think that the idea of reaching young girls that are in college is something that we are strongly open to because who better wants to know how to live a more purposeful life than people who are starting out?
There’s nobody who would be willing to do an interview on a regular basis that you can’t go and Google and find out what has happened to them in the past week. There’s nobody.
Interviewing people, I don’t miss that at all. I do miss kibitzing with the audience because after every show I would spend half an hour to 40 minutes talking to people.
I interviewed – no – had lunch with Harper Lee several years ago, trying to convince Harper Lee to do “To Kill a Mockingbird” for the book club. She wouldn’t do it. She said, “Honey, I said everything I wanted to say.”
I live in the space where God is. There is no question that that is why I am where I am, and why I have had the success that I’ve had, is because I allow myself to be guided by that which is greater than myself – than my personality.
There are so many people who’ve come before me who deserved to be tired. Who didn’t have the opportunities, who didn’t have the access, who didn’t have the money, who didn’t have the influence, who didn’t have the voice.
I made the decision I will own my own show. So never again will I ever be told what I can and can not do.
I’m always interested in people being able to share stories that allow us to see the landscape of human foibles, challenges, and ultimately triumph.
I think I try to speak to the heart of the woman who I know is interested in growing into herself.
I don’t know what kind of egomaniac is sitting at home thinking about the impact they have had on the culture. It’s not something I actually think about until it comes up.
Your work speaks for you. Your art defines you.
I am a person who lives my life based on intention. I don’t do anything without intention because intention determines the outcome of your life. It’s like cause and effect.
What you want to do is to get to the point where you only do what matters to you. The real goal in life is to become more of who you are, so that you can make the choices that really satisfy who you are and what you want to do.
Can I just tell you the truth? I get asked to do a lot of stuff. And all of the years that people have asked me to do things for the film festival, I couldn’t. And so this year, I thought, “Oh, my god, I don’t have a day job. If somebody ask me to do something, I’m going to do it.”
