Life is short and the time of death is uncertain; so apply yourself to meditation. Avoid doing evil, and acquire merit, to the best of your ability, even at the cost of life itself. In short: Act so that you have no cause to be ashamed of yourselves and hold fast to this rule.
Accustomed long to contemplating love and compassion I have forgotten all difference between myself and others.

In criticizing, the teacher is hoping to teach. That’s all.
This existence of ours is as transient as autumn clouds To watch the birth and death of beings is like looking at the movements of a dance. A lifetime is like a flash of lightning in the sky, Rushing by, like a torrent down a steep mountain.
All beings tremble before violence. All love life. All fear death. See yourself in others. Then whom can you hurt? What harm can you do?
You are the community now. Be a lamp for yourselves. Be your own refuge. Seek for no other. All things must pass. Strive on diligently. Don’t give up.
Do not blindly believe what others say. See for yourself what brings contentment, clarity and peace. That is the path for you to follow.
A man may conquer a million men in battle but one who conquers himself is, indeed, the greatest of conquerors.
Everything changes, nothing remains without change.
Overcome the angry by non-anger; overcome the wicked by goodness; overcome the miser by generosity; overcome the liar by truth.
Radiate boundless love towards the entire world – above, below, and across – unhindered, without ill will, without enmity.
The thought manifests as the word. The word manifests as the deed. The deed develops into habit. And the habit hardens into character. So watch the thought and its ways with care. And let it spring from love, born out of concern for all beings.
The gift of truth excels all other gifts.
