The bottom line in love is not whether someone loves you, but whether someone chooses you.
Your human self might be in hell right now, but your divine self is literally untouched by your suffering. And your divine self is who you are.

Examining the past can help clarify many of our problems, but healing doesn’t occur in the past. It occurs in the present. There is practically a mania these days for blaming the events of our childhood for our current despair. What the ego doesn’t want us to see is that our pain doesn’t come from the love we weren’t given in the past, but from the love we ourselves aren’t giving in the present.
The universe provides us with a clean slate in every moment; God’s creation holds nothing against us.
The other person doesn’t have to consciously join you in the change. ‘Whoever is saner at the time,’ says A Course in Miracles, ‘is to invite the Holy Spirit into a situation.’ It doesn’t matter whether or not another person shares our willingness to let God enter. Knowing who you are and why you came here – that you are a child of God, and that you came here to heal and be healed – is more important than knowing what you want to do. What you want to do is not the important question. The question to ask is, “When I do anything, how should I do it”? And the answer is, “Kindly.
When we choose to love, or to allow our minds to be one with God, then life is peaceful. When we turn away from love, the pain sets in. And whether we love, or close our hearts to love, is a mental choice we make, every moment of every day.
What we mentally refuse to permit others, we refuse ourselves. What we bless in others, we draw to us.
Dear God, Please free me from false appetites and take away my pain. Take from me my addicted self, and show me who I am. Unchain my heart so I might live a freer life at last. Amen.

Excitement doesn’t knock at your door any less when you’re older than when you’re younger. It’s just that when you’re younger, you’re more likely to open the door and let it in. With age, you start growing ambivalent about excitement. You might say that you want it, but at the same time you’re not sure you have the energy for it. The goal of spiritual practice is full recovery, and the only thing you need to recover from is a fractured sense of self. If you don’t already believe it yourself, another person cannot convince you you’re okay.
