The only conversion involved in Vipassana is from misery to happiness, from bondage to liberation.
For real happiness, for real lasting stable happiness, one has to make a journey deep within oneself and see that one gets rid of all the unhappiness and misery stored in the deeper levels of the mind.
One should not be happy or distressed over desirables and undesirables, knowing that such feelings are just created by the mind.
Do not look at anybody in terms of friend or foe, brother or cousin; do not fritter away your mental energies in thoughts of friendship or enemity. Seeking the Self everywhere, be amiable and equal-minded towards all, treating all alike.
Pray, hope and don’t worry. Anxiety doesn’t help at all. Our Merciful Lord will listen to your prayer.
A man may conquer a million men in battle but one who conquers himself is, indeed, the greatest of conquerors.
Be a lamp to yourself. Be your own confidence. Hold on to the truth within yourself as to the only truth.
Live in Joy, In love, Even among those who hate. Live in joy, In health, Even among the afflicted. Live in joy, In peace, Even among the troubled. Look within. Be still. Free from fear and attachment, Know the sweet joy of living in the way.
The mind is the source of happiness and unhappiness.
Pay no attention to the faults of others, things done or left undone by others. Consider only what by oneself is done or left undone.
If you avoid conflict to keep the peace, you start a war inside yourself.
Your outside world is a reflection of your inside world. What goes on in the inside, shows on the outside.
You already have everything you need to be content. Your real work is to do whatever it takes to realize that.
Without inner peace, outer peace is impossible.
The truth is you can’t try to let go. Trying is the opposite of letting go. To let go is to relinquish trying. To let go is much more like to let be.
In an easy and relaxed manner, in a healthy and positive way, in its own perfect time.
Stop trying to change the world since it is only the mirror. Man’s attempt to change the world by force is as fruitless as breaking a mirror in the hope of changing his face. Leave the mirror and change your face. Leave the world alone and change your conceptions of yourself.
Happiness is simply to allow everything to be exactly as it is from moment to moment.
Equanimity is a perfect, unshakable balance of mind.
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; enjoying one moment at a time; accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him forever in the next. Amen.
